A Cat is a wholesome antidote to our sense of superioritywhen we remember that GOD created the Cat first!

1.

GOD must have been smiling

the while He populated

empty earth in kind preparation for:

  Adam, meet Cat.

-

2.

He gave his love to me

from the first moments of life

his mother’s too early demise linking

his fate to mine.

-

3.

Proper cat etiquette

seemed inbred in him from youth

a fierce warrior’s soul measured in ounces,

I named him Turk.

-

4.

This life we share with cat:

we’re just animated clay,

our shared fate is to be returned to dust,

love taught to trust.

-

5.

Independent of age

moves my yellow-furred tom cat

with agile grace enough to loan to mine

a higher place.

-

6.

The sky is colored lead

the clouds are chunks of cement

but indoors the lightness of joy gives place

Gingerbread cat.

-

7.

Spice of life, never dull,

a fluff of amber and fur,

borrowed doorway to imagination:

Turk strides indoors

-

8.

Counting down the moments

settling in new year’s

moments rest between babbles and pine scents

I mimic Cat.

-

9.

A good book on my mind

my yellow cat on my lap

snuggled together in goose down repose

time tiptoes by!

-

10.

Soon we’ll be wakening

to dawn’s daylight odyssey,

I push aside cat’s plaintive call to rise

embrace the dark

-

11.

With turkey leftovers

I warm hours left behind

in the house and life I gladly share

with my three pets.

-

12.

The cold of snow can’t dim

that warmth of his playful storms!

So many places to be at once

cat dynamo

-

13.

Old dog is patient but

Tasha is so excited!

Her toys never used to move by themselves

or have a tail!

-

14.

Winter’s chill can not touch

the places warmed by cider,

exotic scents of anticipation

wait out-of-doors.

-

15.

Heaven’s higher truths taught

quiet creature comforts

Let the wind’s howl behind cold glass

I am at peace.

16.

As Turk eyes the new fish

I watch in trepidation

my fears are for naught, he just wants a drink

from Joseph’s bowl!

-

17.

There’s no darkness with love

His belly full of warmed milk

Turk’s love lights up the long night hours

at least he sleeps!

-

18

My legs have gone to sleep

Tasha’s head rests on my feet

and Old dog is snuggled against my thigh

so here I sit.

-

19.

Could I request a boon

from my Creator I know,

my first and foremost request would be

  Make me as Turk!

-

20.

In the quiet places

I bow my head in prayer

while kitten’s paws skittering in the hallway

remind me why.

-

21.

Lean, gold feline machine

ageless warrior wrapped in fur

plays with shadows as with slashing swords

in shadows stark.

-

22.

Eyes watching from within

seeing with no sin

my soul’s companion will not tell

snuck candy bars!

-

23.

Less idle than Noble,

storing energy in wait,

to seize the moment inconveniently

at my ankles!

-

24.

Eyelashes bat as coy

breath as soft as babies

a panther lurks, wrapped in gold fur

Turk is at rest.

-

25

It’s a point of honor.

to pretend not to see me.

so new to our household, little Shiloh

finds his own place.

-

26.

Sunlight moves in ripples

muscle and sinew unite

soul of a Snow Tiger, wrapped in honor,

joy in passage.

-

27.

‘The Cat’s Meow’: ‘The best!’

a saying from times past mine

brushes my skin, and recaptures my mind

reminding why

-

28.

Like the wind in passage

Contracted muscles expand,

snuggles in the darkness to comfort me ,

the wind lies still.

-

29.

Movement catches my eye

a spider on the wall creeps,

ultimate web master weaves from the dark

bug hunter’s taunt.

-

30.

Majesty and fur mixed

peacefulness personified

till motionless cat’s fancy seizes on

a tail to chase.

-

31.

The breeze through the window

alerts me to the sparrow

Whose bright eyes ask ‘Can Turk come out and play? ‘

He’s not at home.
